Workshop storage that survives a real workshop

Tools are only as good as the place you keep them. Damp, dust and disorganisation cost more in replacements than a proper storage setup costs to buy.

Start with weight ratings

Add up what you actually intend to put on a shelf. A drawer full of spanners can easily weigh 30 kg. Choose shelving rated well above your estimate — a shelf working at half its rating will not bow over time.

Keep tools off the floor

Floor-level storage collects dust and swarf. Tool cabinets and carts with castors let you move the whole set to the job, and keep the cutting edges out of harm’s way.

Contain the small parts

Fasteners, drill bits and fittings disappear in open trays. Stackable storage cages and lidded boxes keep a job’s parts together and stop screws migrating into the swarf pile.

Go up, not out

In a small workshop the ceiling is free space. Tall shelving units and racking make use of it, and wall-mounted rails keep the tools you use most within arm’s reach.
