The 8 g cylinder is the small end of the range, and it is the size built into compact life jackets, life bracelets and buoyancy aids where the cylinder has to sit inside the garment. The 3/8 thread is the common fitting on those mechanisms. Made by Chuangbinuo.

8 g steel CO2 cartridge with 3/8 thread

8 g CO2 Cartridge: Overview

Eight grams is a small charge designed for a small volume: a life bracelet, a compact buoyancy aid, or a top-up of a bicycle tyre. Attempting to fill a full-size tyre from an 8 g cylinder will leave it soft.

The cylinder is about 66 mm by 18 mm, which is the short, slim pattern that fits inside a jacket or a belt pack. The thread is 3/8.

Because these cylinders are usually fitted to safety equipment, the thread and the length matter more than the capacity. A cartridge that is a few millimetres too long will not let the mechanism close.

Key Features at a Glance

  • 8 g capacity – sized for compact inflation systems.
  • 3/8 thread – fits life jacket and bracelet mechanisms.
  • Compact – about 66 x 18 mm.
  • Steel cylinder – welded base, as listed by the supplier.
  • Safety equipment – life jackets and buoyancy aids.
  • Bulk packing – supplied in cartons.

Fitting and Use

Life jackets and bracelets

Replace like for like. The mechanism is designed around one cylinder size and thread, and a larger cartridge will not let the lever close or the cap seal.

Screw the cartridge in by hand until it seats. Force is what damages the thread in the firing head, and a damaged head will not fire reliably.

Before the season

Check the mechanism, the cartridge seat and the cylinder at the start of each season. A cylinder that has been in a damp locker for months is the one that fails when it is needed.

After any test firing, replace the cartridge and the seal kit. A part-used cylinder cannot be recharged.

Storage and Shipping

Storage

Keep cylinders dry and out of direct sun, and store them separately from the inflated garment where possible so a damp locker does not sit against the steel.

Do not puncture, crush or heat a cylinder, whether it looks empty or not.

Shipping

Pressurised cylinders are regulated goods in most markets. Check the destination rules before ordering in volume, and tell us the port so the shipment is declared correctly.

Cartons are packed for bulk handling and can be ordered as they are.

Where It Is Used

Life jackets, life bracelets and buoyancy aids, compact marine safety systems, and small inflation jobs where a full-size cartridge is too large to fit the equipment.

Choosing the Right Item

  1. Match the thread and the capacity to the equipment: the 3/8 cylinders suit common inflator heads and smaller life jackets, and the M16 x 1.5 cylinder suits the larger jacket and raft systems.
  2. Buy the capacity for the job. An 8 g cylinder will inflate a bracelet or top up a tyre, while a car tyre or a tubeless bicycle tyre needs 38 g or more.
  3. For a workshop, buy a power rating above the job: a 60 W iron heats a joint quickly and has reserve for a connector, which a 30 W iron does not.
  4. Order cartons rather than singles where the consumable is used regularly, and check the shipping declaration for pressurised goods at the same time.

Care and Maintenance

Keep cylinders and consumables dry and out of direct sun, and check the rules that apply to pressurised goods before shipping in bulk.

Check threads against the head, mechanism or fitting before ordering: a 3/8 cylinder will not fit an M16 mechanism, and the two look similar in a photograph.

Unplug tools when they are not in use, keep cables away from hot parts, and work in a ventilated area where flux or gas is involved.

OEM and Bulk Supply

The supplier makes to order, prints own-brand packaging and can supply private-label cartons, with OEM and ODM support for welding and inflation accessories.
