Setting pressure, fluid and fan

Set the inlet pressure first, then the fluid, then the fan. Start with the fluid screw closed and open it until the gun delivers a full, wet coat without running, then open the fan until the pattern is the width you want. Adjusting in that order keeps you from chasing two settings at once.

Spray a test pattern on masking paper before the work. A pattern that is heavy in the centre with dry edges means the pressure is too high or the fan is too wide; a pattern that is spitting means the material is too thick or the nozzle is partly blocked.

Between coats, wipe the nozzle and the air cap. Material that dries on the cap breaks the atomisation up and puts specks into the next coat, which is the most common cause of a finish that has to be sanded back.
