A kitchen knife that will not bite is usually a knife with a rolled edge, not a worn-out blade, and a few passes on a diamond surface bring it back. This sharpener uses a diamond abrasive on a rigid body, so the angle stays consistent pass after pass instead of following the curve of the edge. Made by the supplier.

Diamond sharpener for kitchen knives and scissors

Diamond Sharpener: Overview

Diamond is the abrasive to use for quick edge recovery. The particles are bonded to a steel or plastic body, so they cut fast and do not dish out the way a soft water stone does after a few weeks of kitchen use.

The sharpener is held in one hand with the blade drawn across the surface at a fixed angle. Because the body sets the angle, the result does not depend on how steady the hand is.

The body folds or stores flat. That matters for a sharpener kept in a kitchen drawer, a tackle box or a tool roll rather than on a bench.

Key Features at a Glance

  • Diamond abrasive – cuts quickly and keeps its shape.
  • 400 and 1000 grit – coarse to restore, fine to finish.
  • Fixed sharpening angle – set by the body, not by hand.
  • Folding, pocket-sized body – stores in a drawer, bag or tool roll.
  • Blades and scissors – works on kitchen knives, shears and workshop blades.
  • Non-slip base – stays put while the blade is drawn across.

Sharpening with Diamond

Which grit to use

Coarse grits remove material and are used to reset a damaged or badly rolled edge. Fine grits refine what the coarse surface left behind, and a kitchen knife normally needs only the fine surface once the edge is sound.

Work coarse first only when the edge is visibly damaged. Going straight to the fine surface on a knife that only needs a touch-up removes less steel and keeps the blade for longer.

Holding the angle

The angle is what makes an edge. Too shallow and the edge folds over on the first onion; too steep and the knife will not cut cleanly. On this type of sharpener the body sets the angle, so the blade is kept flat against the surface and drawn through.

Draw in one direction with light pressure, a few passes per side, then check the edge on a sheet of paper. Stopping as soon as it cuts cleanly is better than sharpening to a burr and having to remove it again.

Care and Storage

Cleaning

Rinse the surface and wipe it dry after use. Kitchen knives leave fat and food on the abrasive, and a loaded surface cuts slowly and marks the blade.

A stiff brush removes swarf from between the particles. Do not use the sharpener as a surface for anything else – the diamond layer is thin and abrasion is what wears it out.

Storage

Store folded or in its sleeve. A diamond surface rubbing against other tools in a drawer loses its bite long before the body wears out.

Keep it away from moisture where the body is steel; a rusty back is the usual reason these are thrown away.

Where It Is Used

Kitchen knife care at home and in catering kitchens, plus scissors, garden shears, pocket knives and workshop blades that need a quick edge without setting up a bench stone.

Choosing a Sharpener

  1. Check the grit range: 400 and 1000 covers both edge recovery and finishing.
  2. Diamond is the right abrasive for speed; a ceramic or water stone gives a finer polish but takes longer.
  3. A folding body suits a drawer or a bag; a bench type suits a fixed sharpening station.
  4. Look for a non-slip base where the sharpener will be used on a worktop.

Care and Maintenance

Rinse and dry the abrasive after use so food and swarf do not load the surface.

Store folded or sleeved; a diamond surface rubbed against other tools loses its bite.

Keep the body dry where it is steel, and never use the sharpener as a scraper.

OEM and Bulk Supply

Own-brand printing, custom colours and retail packaging are available on request, and the supplier supports OEM and ODM work.
