Using a Rotary Tool
Speed and pressure
Run the tool fast and press lightly. Speed does the cutting; pressure only heats the accessory and shortens its life, and it is the fastest way to break a small burr in the work.
Match the accessory to the material: cut-off wheels for metal and plastic, mounted points for stone and glass, wire brushes for rust and paint, and polishing heads for finishing.
Fitting accessories
Insert the shank fully into the collet before tightening. A shank held in the end of the collet will run out and vibrate, and the accessory will break.

Blow dust out of the vents after use. Fine dust from stone and metal is what kills the motor, not the work itself.
Check the collet for wear. A worn collet will not hold a shank straight, and run-out is what breaks accessories.

Wear eye protection. Small cut-off wheels fail without warning and the fragments travel.
Clamp the work where possible. A rotary tool is used one-handed and the work moves before the operator expects it to.
