A temperature-controlled iron holds its heat when the tip touches the joint, which is what separates a clean joint from a cold one. This range covers the internal-heated 907 and the external-heated 905 series, from 60 W up to 200 W, in both voltages.
Soldering Iron: Overview
The iron has an adjustable temperature control in the handle, so the tip can be set for the solder and the work rather than running at whatever the mains gives it. A controlled iron recovers its temperature between joints, which is what stops the tip being quenched on a heavy joint and the joint coming out dull.
Two constructions are offered. The 907 series is internally heated, with the element inside the tip: it heats quickly and holds the temperature closely, and is the choice for electronics and light work. The 905 series is externally heated, with the element wrapped round the tip: it is slower to heat but robust and cheaper to run, and it suits heavier joints, cable work and general repair.
Power runs from 60 W through 100 W and 150 W to 200 W. A 60 W iron covers circuit boards and small terminals; the 150 W and 200 W irons are for cable lugs, connectors, sheet metal and the heavier work where a 60 W iron will not keep up.
Both 220 V and 110 V versions are supplied, including export versions for the North American market, with replaceable tips.

Choosing a Soldering Iron
- Choose the wattage against the work, not the bench. A 60 W iron is right for circuit boards and small terminals; cable lugs, connectors and sheet metal need 150 W or 200 W to hold temperature.
- Choose internal heated where temperature stability matters – electronics and fine work – and external heated where the iron is used hard on heavier joints and the cost of replacement tips matters.
- Take a replaceable-tip iron. The tip wears long before the element does, and an iron that cannot take a new tip is thrown away with the handle.
- Check the voltage and the plug for the market it will be used in; the export versions are supplied with the plug for that market.
Care and Maintenance
Tin the tip before and after every session and wipe it on a damp sponge rather than filing it. A dry tip oxidises and stops taking solder within a few joints.
Do not leave the iron at full temperature on the stand for long periods, and unplug it when it is not in use: it is the tip and the element that are consumed by idling.
