A drill leaves a burr on every hole it makes, and a countersink leaves a chamfer that decides how the screw sits. This tool does both: a hardened cutter on an external hex or triangular shank that fits a standard drill chuck, in 3-flute and 6-flute heads. Made by Weishi.

Chamfer and deburring drill bits with hex and triangular shanks in silver, gold and black

Deburring and Chamfer Tool: Overview

Burrs cut hands, stop parts seating flat and show up under paint. Removing them by hand with a file is slow; a chamfer tool mounted in a drill does it in one pass. The cutting head is a hardened multi-flute cutter, and the shank is a plain hex or triangular section that any three-jaw chuck grips without slipping.

There are two head patterns in this range. The 6-flute cutter has more cutting edges in contact, so it leaves a smoother chamfer and is easier to control on sheet and tube. The 3-flute cutter has larger gullets and clears chips faster, which suits deeper chamfers and softer materials such as aluminium and plastics.

Typical users are fabrication and sheet-metal shops deburring holes in plate and tube, machinists breaking edges on turned parts, plumbers and electricians cleaning up holes in enclosures, and workshops that fit countersunk screws and need the head to sit flush.

Key Features at a Glance

  • Chamfer and deburr – breaks the edge and cuts a countersink in one pass.
  • 3-flute and 6-flute heads – fast chip clearance or a smoother finish.
  • Hex or triangular shank – gripped securely by a standard drill chuck.
  • Hardened cutter – Cr12MoV alloy steel for steel, aluminium and plastics.
  • Three finishes – silver, gold and black for tool identification.
  • Low cost consumable – cheap enough to keep a spare in the drill case.

Flutes, Shanks and Materials

Three flutes or six flutes

More flutes means more cutting edges in contact with the workpiece, so the tool cuts smoother and leaves a finer chamfer, but the narrower gullets clear chips less well. Six flutes is the general-purpose choice for steel where the chamfer will be seen or where a countersunk screw has to sit flush.

Three flutes gives wide gullets that eject chips quickly, which keeps the cutter cool and stops it clogging in aluminium, brass and plastics. It cuts faster and rougher than the 6-flute tool.

Shank type and materials

The hexagonal shank has flat faces that a three-jaw chuck bites into, so it will not spin under load. The triangular shank is a three-face section that suits smaller chucks and lighter drills, and is common on deburring tools sold for hobby and light trade use.

The cutter is Cr12MoV, a cold-work tool steel used for cutting tools because it holds an edge and resists wear. It will cut mild steel, stainless with care, aluminium, brass, copper and most plastics. Run it slowly: chamfer tools work best at low speed with light pressure, not at full drill speed.

Where It Is Used

Sheet-metal and fabrication work deburring drilled and punched holes, machining and turning to break sharp edges, plumbing and electrical work cleaning holes in enclosures and trunking, furniture and joinery countersinking screw heads, and general workshop use where screws have to sit flush.

Choosing a Chamfer Tool

  1. Choose 6-flute for a smooth chamfer on steel and for countersunk screw heads, and 3-flute for faster work in aluminium and plastics.
  2. Choose a hex shank if the tool will be used in a cordless drill where grip matters; triangular shanks suit light and hobby use.
  3. Run the tool slowly with light, even pressure. Speed burns the edge and hard pressure chips it.
  4. Use a drop of cutting oil on steel and stainless to improve the finish and extend the cutter’s life.

Care and Maintenance

Brush chips out of the flutes after use and keep the tool dry; a clogged flute is the usual cause of a rough chamfer and a hot cutter.

Store it in the drill case rather than loose in a tool bag, where the cutting edges will be knocked against other tools.

OEM and Bulk Supply

The supplier offers custom printing and packaging and accepts OEM and ODM work for own-brand drill accessory ranges.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it fit a standard cordless drill?

Yes. Both the hex and triangular shanks are gripped by a standard three-jaw chuck. Hex gives the more secure grip.

Can it cut a countersink for a screw head?

Yes, that is one of its main jobs. Match the chamfer size to the screw head so the head sits flush or just below the surface.

What speed should I use?

Slow. A chamfer tool works best at low rpm with light pressure. Full drill speed will overheat the edge and leave a poor finish.

Will it deburr stainless steel?

Yes, with light pressure and a little cutting oil. Stainless work-hardens, so avoid rubbing the tool without cutting.

How long does the cutter last?

It is a consumable. On light deburring work one tool lasts a long time; heavy countersinking in steel will wear it faster, which is why the price makes spares practical.

Summary

A chamfer and deburring tool for a hand drill in hex or triangular shank and 3-flute or 6-flute heads, for breaking edges and cutting countersinks in steel, aluminium and plastics.
