Using the Tool
Setting up
Set the platform height so the band sits flat and the pin lines up with the link joint. Take the time to line it up: a pin pressed in at an angle damages the link and the replacement pin will not run true afterwards.
Work over a tray. Split pins and collars are tiny and they are lost the moment the band comes apart.
Refitting the band
Push the pin back in the direction it came out, and check the collar is engaged before the band goes back on the watch. A collar that is not seated will let the band come apart in wear.
Check the link moves freely after refitting. A tight link flexes the pin every time the wrist moves, and that is what breaks a bracelet at the joint.

Cleaning and storage
Wipe the platform and thread clean; grit in the screw thread is what makes the press grab and jerk, which is when pins bend.

Replacing the pin
Fit a new driving pin as soon as the old one shows a bend or a burr. A blunt or bent pin spreads the load and damages the link it is pressing against.
