Foot Pump: Overview
The pump is a steel barrel with a foot plate and a hose with a standard valve connector. Air is pushed by standing on the plate, and the number of cylinders decides how much air is moved per stroke and how hard the plate is to push. A triple cylinder pump fills a car tyre quickly but takes more effort; a single cylinder is easier to press and slower.
Pressure runs to 160 psi, which covers car and van tyres, motorcycle tyres, bicycle tyres, trailer tyres and most inflatables. A gauge is fitted on the versions that have one, either in the barrel or as a separate dial on the hose, so the pressure can be read while pumping rather than checked afterwards.

Choosing a Foot Pump
- Choose the cylinder count by how often the pump is used. A single cylinder is enough for occasional top-ups; a twin or triple cylinder is worth having where several vehicles or a fleet are kept at pressure.
- Take a gauge version if the pressures matter. Checking a tyre afterwards means taking the pump off and using a separate gauge, which is the step most people skip.
