Using the Drill
Bits and materials
Use the bit for the material: twist bits for metal, brad point for wood, masonry bits for brick and block, and never a masonry bit on steel, which blunts it in seconds.
Let the bit cut at its own speed. Pressing hard heats the bit and burns the hole; the drill is doing the work, and pressure only wears the tool and the bit out faster.
Starting and finishing a hole

Care
Cleaning and brushes
Blow dust out of the vents after use, especially after masonry work. Dust in the motor and switch is what shortens the life of a drill used on site.
Check the cord and plug before each use and keep the chuck free of dust; a chuck that will not close evenly will not hold a bit true.
Storage
Store the drill in its case with the bits in the holder rather than loose, and keep it dry. Batteries, where supplied, are best stored part charged and out of the cold.
