Machine taps are made to run in a machine or in a hand wrench without wandering, and they are the pattern most workshops keep for sizes above M12 where hand force alone is not enough. These pairs cover the metric coarse sizes from M3 to M24. Made by Feiyang.

Machine Tap and Die Pairs: Overview
The machine tap pattern has a shorter chamfer than a hand tap, so it starts cutting sooner and needs less clearance under the hole. That suits tapping in a drill press, a mill or a lathe, and it still works in a hand wrench.
Twelve metric coarse sizes are stocked, M3 to M24, each supplied with the round die of the same pitch. Coarse is the default thread for general engineering: it is stronger in the thread and less likely to cross-thread than a fine pitch.
Both tools are high-speed steel. Above M16 the thread is cut in several passes and the die is heavy enough to need a proper die stock rather than a bar holder.
Key Features at a Glance
- Machine tap pattern – shorter chamfer, for machine or hand use.
- Metric coarse – the standard thread for general engineering.
- M3 to M24 – twelve sizes in one listing.
- Matching die – same pitch, so the pair cuts as a set.
- High-speed steel – holds its edge as the cut heats up.
- Carton supply – single pairs or bulk cartons on request.
Tapping and Threading
Machine or hand
In a machine, drive the tap at low speed and feed it by hand on the quill rather than powering it in. The tap should pull itself into the hole once it has started square.
By hand, use a tap wrench with the tap started square to the work and check it against a square from two directions before cutting more than a thread or two.
Cutting the matching stud
Chamfer the bar, start the die square and keep it lubricated. Coarse threads cut more freely than fine ones, but a dry die will still tear the crest of the thread.
Take the thread in stages on the larger sizes and clear the swarf each time the die is backed off.
Technique and Care
Drill sizes
Use the tapping size for the thread, which is the nominal diameter less the pitch: M10 x 1.5 takes an 8.5 mm hole. A hole that is too small is the usual reason a tap breaks.
Keep a tapping chart with the set. Guessing the drill size is more expensive than looking it up.
Storage
Wipe and oil the tools after use, then store them so the flutes and the die threads are not resting against each other. Chipped cutting edges cut oversize.
Keep the set dry. A tap that has rusted in the flutes will cut roughly and is difficult to bring back.

Where It Is Used
Cutting and restoring metric coarse threads in steel and cast iron: machine building and repair, vehicle and agricultural workshops, fabrication, jigs, fixtures, and any job where a standard bolt thread has to be made or cleaned up.
Choosing the Right Set
- Buy the set that matches the work, not the largest one. A tap and die pair is the right buy for one thread size, and a full set for a workshop that meets many sizes.
- Check the thread callout or the fastener size before ordering. A set of the wrong pitch or head type is no use however well it is made.
- For production work, buy the pair so the tap and die are matched. Mixing brands of the same nominal size is how a stud ends up too tight in its hole.
- Kit sets are worth buying in the larger case where tools travel, and in the small case where the set lives in a pocket or a bag.
Care and Maintenance
Wipe the tools after use and store them dry. Rust on a cutting edge or a tap is the start of a poor cut.
Use the right lubricant for the job: cutting oil on steel, paraffin or a dedicated lubricant on aluminium, and nothing dry where a thread is being cut.
Keep the set complete and labelled. Half sizes and similar bits look almost identical, and mixing them up produces a thread or a fastener that will not fit.
OEM and Bulk Supply
The supplier assembles and labels kits to order, prints own-brand packaging and packs sets to a customer tool list, with OEM and ODM support for private-label tool sets.
