Rubber-Lined Clamps: Overview
These are R-type clamps: a stainless band with a moulded rubber liner bonded inside, closed by a single bolt. They are used to fix pipes, hoses and cables to a wall, a panel or a frame.
The liner is what makes them different from a metal saddle clamp. It absorbs vibration, spreads the load over a wider area and stops the band cutting into a soft hose or abrading a cable sheath.
The band is 304 stainless, so the clamp does not rust where pipes sweat or where the installation is outdoors. Sizes run from M6 to M50 to cover pipe outside diameters from about 6 mm to 60 mm.

Fitting and Selection
Sizing the clamp
Size the clamp to the outside diameter of the pipe or cable, not to the nominal bore. A 15 mm pipe is about 21 mm outside, so the clamp is chosen from the outside measurement.
The liner compresses slightly, so a clamp one size below the pipe diameter can be forced on, but it will hold the pipe off-centre and put a point load on the liner.
Where lined clamps are needed
Use a lined clamp wherever the pipe carries vibration: after a pump, on a compressor line, on a vehicle or on any run that will move. The liner is what stops the band fretting a hole in thin-wall tube.
They are also the right choice for cable, where a plain metal clamp will eventually cut through the sheath.
Materials and Environment
304 stainless
304 is the general-purpose stainless grade and is enough for indoor work, damp plant rooms and normal outdoor exposure. For coastal or chloride-rich environments a 316 grade is the usual upgrade.
The bolt is stainless too, so the fixing does not become the rust point on an otherwise corrosion-free installation.
Rubber liner
The liner is bonded to the band, so it does not slip out while the clamp is being positioned one-handed.
Keep the liner clear of oil and solvent: a softened liner loses its grip and the clamp starts to move under vibration.
